For the last two years, I’ve been looking at different ways to reduce my eco-footprint and one of the easiest ways to do this is through how I care for my clothes...
At the beginning of 2019, I learned that two of the biggest energy suckers are the washer and dryer, not to mention—the constant rotation of our garments is wearing them down.
I also learned that our clothes don’t need to be washed after every single wear if they’re not completely dirty—simply turning them inside out to air-out near an open window will help keep them fresh between washes while also extending their life.
With this newfound knowledge, I was committed to wearing my clothes at least 3 or 4 times before washing them. I would turn them inside out, hang them up by a window to air-out and it was working, kinda. After the second or third day, there was a stale smell and some shirts were still holding onto odor. A handful of followers who were following my lead also expressed the same concern and many of them suggested I make a fabric spray to help combat this.
I researched online for an all-natural, fragrance-free Fabric Spray and I couldn’t find one! The sprays that currently exist are either without a deodorizer, or use fragrance instead of natural ingredients. With a clear gap in the market and a desire to take better care of my clothes and the planet—I set out to make my own non-toxic Fabric Spray with the help of a good friend and Essential Oils expert, Amanda Cronk of Oil Vibes. See below for a few photos from the days of inception.
The Making of ClosettCandyy Fabric Spray
It was important to me that this Fabric Spray contain simple and pure ingredients, regardless of cost. There are too many household cleaning and fabric products on the market that contain chemical, toxic fragrances so I wanted to provide an alternative. The ClosettCandyy fabric spray only uses three ingredients: purified water (keeps the mixture free of minerals and extends shelf life) + vodka (natural deodorizer) + organic essential oils (freshness + scent using the purest essential oils).
Using ClosettCandyy Fabric Spray means:
keeping your clothing and linens fresh for longer
less laundry!!
less water usage!!
your clothes will LAST longer!!
no fragrance (aka BETTER FOR YOUR HEALTH!)
The difference between fragrance and essential oils is major. Essential Oils are steam-distilled pure plant extracts used for scenting, flavoring, or healing applications in aromatherapy. Fragrance oils are synthetically made chemical scent compounds. Fragrance oils are problematic because these synthetic compounds, they are drying and irritating to the skin.
The current line-up of all-natural scents include:
🍋 Citrus
🌿 Eucalyptus
💦 Fresh F'n Laundry
💜 Lavender
🌾Lemongrass
🚫 Scentless
*As of January 12, 2024, we have added more scents! Tangerine Grapefruit has replaced the Citrus, Cedarwood/Bergamot, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Mint, Lavender Eucalyptus, Peppermint. We also no longer use DoTERRA for our essential oils and instead use BOTANICAL. You can shop Fabric Spray HERE!
How to Use ClosettCandyy Fabric Spray
Watch the video below for a demo on how to best use ClosettCandyy Fabric Spray on your clothing between washes. Click here to watch the full video on IGTV.
Always open your trigger & shake before use!
When you receive your spray, the trigger is locked to prevent any spillage. To unlock, simply move the notch that's under the spray to the 'open' arrow on the left or right side of the trigger.
Spray from an inch away to freshen fabrics and furnishings.
Tips for clothing: turn your garment inside out and concentrate your spritz on the affected areas (armpits, crotch, etc.). Hang in your doorway, shower, or by a window for 12-24 hours to allow odors to dissipate before hanging back up in your closet.
The essential oils will not stain your fabrics because they've been emulsified with witch hazel and are dispersed throughout the purified water.
Safe to use on any and all fabrics, shoes, linens, towels, furniture, carpets, yoga mats, etc.
If you or your partner smoke, this comes in handy!
